Infrared Photography

Infrared photography has been a passion of mine for a long time I love the look and feel I get out of this type of photography. I am not talking about taking a photo and working it in Photoshop to make it look like it is infrared because that is not ‘pure’. Ok, who am I kidding, ‘pure’?!?!? Actually pictures that are worked in Photoshop and made to look like they are infrared just suck. If you have ever seen real Infrared photography you will know what I mean. Infrared photography is taking digital pictures in IR light only. IR light is not visible to the human eye but all cameras can see it. On all cameras there is a filter over the sensor that filters out IR light because it makes digital images ‘fuzzy’ or ‘soft’. I took an older camera we no longer use for business work and had it converted by Life Pixels to IR. The conversion entails taking the IR block filter off of the sensor and replacing it with one that passes only IR light. The green pigments in the leaves reflect IR light and that is why they are bright and look white.

And before you ask, yes, these are heavily edited in Photoshop to tease out details and give me the look and feel I wanted but they are true IR photographs.

Check back regularly as I will be adding more IR pictures to this gallery!
